6 The College Hall is the largest function suite in the building, and one of the grandest. It has many beautiful, original features including a magnificent ornate ceiling, chandeliers and an impressive Victorian fireplace. It was purpose built in 1892 as a venue for formal events, examinations and Admission Ceremonies for new College Fellows and Members. It houses a collection of traditional portraits of prominent College Fellows, dating as early as 1599. The Hall is now used for corporate dinners, large meetings, banquets and balls, as well as conferencing and exhibitions; its unique setting makes it difficult to believe you are in a city centre location. 7 The Princess Alexandra Room combines a glistening chandelier, floor to ceiling windows, and traditional period features. The room is named after Her Royal Highness, Princess Alexandra of Kent, who became the College's first Royal Honorary Fellow in 1959, and whose portrait hangs to the East of the room. The Princess Alexandra room has hosted many important historical meetings, including when Sir Joseph Lister first presented his work on antiseptic surgery and changed the future of medicine. The soft colouring and natural light of this room makes it the perfect venue for any special occasion, celebration or event. Ladies can also relax on the chaise longue or powder one's nose in the Ladies Powder Room, located just outside. 8 The Lower Library is a striking room full of history and character. Originally used as a reading room for Fellows and Members, the shelves of the Lower Library house a collection of late 19th and early 20th century medical textbooks. The Lower Library is an excellent venue for fine dining, drinks receptions, exhibitions or meetings and is conveniently situated on the ground floor of the College, close to the Maurice Bloch Lecture Theatre. 9 The Lister Room is situated in the oldest wing of the College and is named after the celebrated surgeon and innovator, Joseph Lister (1827-1912), best known for his development of a method of antiseptic surgery. Full of charm, character and traditional features, the Lister room is a perfect setting for presentations, meetings and private dining. It is also close to the Maurice Bloch Lecture Theatre and is an ideal breakout area for larger events. 10 The David Livingstone Room is a large bright meeting room overlooking the corner of St Vincent Street. The room is named after the great Scottish explorer and missionary, reflecting the College's connection with his legacy, and displaying a set of his medical instruments used in Africa. 11 The Lock Room, named after Glasgow's Lock Hospital which closed with the advent of the NHS, was originally the drawing room of one of the College buildings on St. Vincent Street. Wall mounted shelves house a selection of the College’s historic books, and a row floor to ceiling windows look out over St. Vincent Street. 12 Since its inception in 1599, the College has had an integral connection to the communities of the city of Glasgow. The Glasgow room represents this connection and tells part of the College’s story; from its first meeting in 1602 at Blackfriar’s Kirk, to its home in the heart of this global city centre on St Vincent Street. 13 Our recently refurbished Maurice Bloch Lecture Theatre provides the latest in conferencing technology. We offer a full range of technical equipment and support; the theatre is equipped with Wi-Fi, flat screen televisions and a key pad voting system. We can stream your conference or presentation to our other smaller lecture theatre, offering an increased capacity of up to 200 people, or to another external venue, if required. The room is fully air conditioned and has induction loops for those with hearing difficulties. This lecture theatre is ideal for conferences, large corporate meetings, presentations or workshops. 14 The Peter Lowe Lecture Theatre provides the latest in conferencing technology, equipped with Wi-Fi, flat screen televisions and a key pad voting system, and with full technical support from College technicians. The theatre can be booked to use as a single room, or as a link from our larger conference room, the Maurice Bloch Lecture Theatre; allowing presentations to be viewed simultaneously and offering an increased capacity of up to 200 people. 15 The brand new, purpose-built Macewen Clinical Skills Suite offers cutting edged facilities for clinical skills training. The suite comprises of two extensive wet labs, and a high spec training area with considerable space for clinical, technical and simulation teaching, workshops and lecturing. Locker and shower room facilities are also included in the suite. 16 Our newly developed, fully-equipped recording studio, the Davies eLearning Centre, provides the latest in filming and recording technology. The studio is ideal for recording high-quality training videos, podcasts and vodcasts, voice-overs, soundbites, presentations, and testimonials. The Davies eLearning Centre is equipped with three cameras linked to a production system for mixing and recording, soundproofing, and a complete set of LED and fluorescent lights. Facilities available include a green screen, autocue, a variety of microphones, and video streaming capabilities. The studio also has the ability to connect to the two lecture theatres and the clinical skills lab within the College.
